Citrus Juicers: Various Types of Citrus Juicers
There are a lot of different
citrus juicers
. Many are made specifically for citrus fruits. However, there are also juicers that offer more versatility and can also juice other fruits and vegetables.
The problem with some juicers is that it is solely used for citrus fruits. People who do not juice citrus as often might be wasting their money in a very expensive juicer. There are other choices and it is important for some to know that.
Manual Juicers
Squeezers are manual juicers that seem like normal Kitchen Utensils. These were used centuries ago primarily to extract juice from lemons. They have two handles at one end and at the other end, the two sections are attached. That is where the fruit is placed. A person then pulls the handles together to squeeze all the juice from the fruit.
Citrus press is also a type of
manual citrus juicer
. It is a lot bigger than a squeezer and it comes with a lever. The lever is used to press the juice until it is dry.
Citrus ream is still seen in many juicers today even if it was first invented in the early 1900’s. The ream is a circular area with ridges. The ridges help in the extraction process.
Electric juicers
Even juicers using reams can be electric. These citrus juicers will definitely be a bit easier to use than the manual version.
Other electric juicers are multi-purpose juicers. Twin gear juicers are the slowest. However, these are said to produce the highest quality of juice.
Masticating juicers are a bit faster than twin gear juicers. This chews on the fruit into a pulp and then it squeezes it.
The fastest would still be a centrifugal juicer. These crush the fruit and then spin the pulp at a very fast speed pressing it against a strainer.
The difference
For the electric juicers, except for the ones with reams, the speed also affects the juice quality. Among the three, more oxidation occurs when one uses centrifugal juicers. In this case, it does not matter if the juice is to be consumed right after it is made. Storing it for future consumption is not ideal.
Using multi-purpose electric juicers is good for those who juice other fruits and vegetables. For people who want their daily orange juice, any manual or ream juicer is enough. Start juicing and enjoy the benefits of drinking fresh juice every day.
