Big Winner: Sloppy Joe and Jicama apple salad
Can you imagine the high school students’ taking part in catering competition? This is what happened to the Monarch High School kitchen in Colorado. In this competition, many cooking teams are invited to the contest spot. They are teenagers from a half dozen high schools.
High school students are considered busiest ones in many countries, who are supposed to devote all their time and energy to school performances. The root cause is that they have to prepare themselves for the college entrance exam. As a result, students are told to keep their hair short and put away their
high heel shoes
or sexy shoes. It is believed that short hair washes easily and fashion shoes can divert the boy students’ attention from their study. To avoid seeing any dating that could happen, any girl wearing sexy clothes and high shoes will be warned not to wear them next time. This is what is going on in many countries in the world.
For one reason or another, these kids are rather gloomy in their best time of their life. We often hear the news that many students commit suicide out of their psychological pressure caused by their parents, teachers and classmates. Academic scores seem to be the only yardstick against which to judge their abilities. We can label it failed education, if possible.
The situation is completely different in the US and this competition is a best example. Students are freed from their endless homework and given the chances to show their aptitude for cooking. What is more interesting is competition’s name for it is called Iron Chef Contest. The honor is not a handsome sum of money or anything else, but the winner’s or the winning team’s recipes would be used on next year’s official school menu. In fact, it seems this honor is more valuable for perhaps you can never imagine, this means about ten thousand students will be served with the winning recipes.
It is so funny and enjoyable to watch this competition, let alone take an active part in it, while we have to say it is a pity that many of us are too old to join in them, but of course we can share their enjoyment and amazingly enough, some of them really show us that they are cooking geniuses. The yardstick of the winning recipes includes convenience, good taste and nourishment. The big winner in the end goes to the sloppy Joe and Jicama apple salad.
